Failure is Always an Option by Mitch Jacobson

In some respects, Los Angeles is not an easy city to live in. It’s certainly not an easy city to fall in love with. There is pollution and crime and traffic and painfully beautiful people at every turn to remind the rest of us of how (beautifully!) inadequate we are.

That is, if you choose to live your life built solely on a fallible set of expectations, loving it only if failure never visits your home or, ahem, your tiny freeway-adjacent apartment in Highland Park.

However, I believe that living anywhere, for anyone, can be a challenge, just as loving your inadequate nose or knees can be a challenge. I also believe the key to overcoming these challenges is to actively–consciously–cultivate the characteristic of adaptability. In other words, choose to love all of your experiences as opportunities to reset your expectations.

I don’t know how long I will live in Los Angeles. I don’t know how long I’ll devote at least part of this blog to sharing my adventures of living and loving here. I don't know how much raw exposure I can take or if what I have to offer in a blog is of any interest to anyone. I do know I will actively, and consciously, choose to share and adapt to whatever experiences, challenges and failures await.

I walk upright and I have a big brain. I can do this!
